Illex Gigantarel Jointed Swimbait BigBait

Illex Gigantarel: Jointed Swimbait for Trophy Pike and Catfish

Anyone targeting large predators needs fishing lures that convincingly imitate a substantial prey fish. At 200 mm and 153 g, the Illex Gigantarel from the Jackall series is a true big bait among Illex lures. Illex designed this hardbait specifically for anglers who are after big fish.

Swimming action

Two reinforced joints divide the body into three segments. This creates a pronounced S-action that mimics the swimming motion of a larger baitfish very naturally. The slightly angled pectoral fins stabilise the swimbait and let it dive to around 0.5 m. Short flicks of the rod tip while twitching even make the Gigantarel perform a complete 180-degree turn. This sudden change of direction often triggers the decisive strike from following predators.

Well-designed features

Two teaser hooks in size 1/0 are dressed with feathers. They make the lure more eye-catching, conceal the hooks and are particularly effective during the pauses of a stop-and-go retrieve. All attachment points are fitted with swivels. These reduce line twist and prevent the hooks from tearing out while playing a powerful fish. A third eyelet at the tail takes an additional hook or feather if required.

Versatile in use

Straight out of the box, the Gigantarel floats. The additional eyelet under the chin significantly broadens its range of uses. With an added weight, this Illex hardbait becomes a slow-sinking swimbait that you can work close to the bottom. Alternatively, you can fish it as a wakebait on the surface over weed beds. This means a single pike lure covers several layers of the water column.
