The Deps Frilled Shad imitates slender baitfish such as smelt and minnows with deceptive realism. At the same time, it enables a demanding Japanese-style presentation that you can achieve with every ordinary retrieve. At 11.9 cm long, this Deps soft plastic lure is a versatile choice among perch lures, an effective zander shad and a slim pike lure for clear waters. Each pack contains five lures.
The Frilled Lip at the Heart of the Action
The frilled, fan-shaped lip above the head deflects the oncoming water. This sets the body into a fine shimmy with a pronounced roll to the side, so the flanks flash again and again. This action is only possible with soft plastic lures and appeals directly to the hunting instinct of predators.
Mid-Strolling Without Long Practice
In mid-strolling, a shad is worked through mid-water with subtle twitches of the rod tip to make it roll. This technique demands a great deal of feel. Among mid-strolling lures, the Frilled Shad produces this action on a jig head with nothing more than a steady retrieve. When hover-strolling, a particularly slow presentation over a short distance, the lip acts as a brake. This keeps the lure working for longer along rock structures or posts where perch like to hold. In addition, the lip covers the hook point and serves as a simple snag guard.
True to Nature for Clear Water
The detailed body texture and separately fitted eyes make the shad a good choice among fishing lures for clear water and heavily fished venues. It also convinces among zander lures when wary fish take a closer look. In transparent colours, air trapped in the deep grooves reflects light like real fish scales. The tail sways with the movement of the body and completes the picture.
Material and Salt Content
The soft, low-density compound is suited to steady retrieves on a jig head as well as light mid-strolling, and it holds well on the hook. The back is salt-free, the belly contains 10% salt and the transparent colours are completely salt-free. The lure carries the Japanese FECO certification. As hook sizes vary between manufacturers, select your jig head to match the length and shape of the lure.

Body: A baitfish recreated down to the last detail!
The ultra-realistic body shape with its finely moulded scale pattern and the separately fitted real eyes reproduces streamlined baitfish such as pond smelt or small carp with striking accuracy. It is exactly this realism that provides the decisive final push to a strike on heavily fished waters and in clear water. On the salt-free clear colours, the air held in the deep dorsal groove adds short, flashing reflections - just like the glint of scales on a real baitfish.
Two material densities in one lure: The Frilled Shad is made from a low-density, soft material that suits a straight retrieve on a jig head and light mid-strolling particularly well, while holding very securely on the hook. Back: 0 % salt content, belly side: 10 % salt content (0 % on clear colours as well). This weight distribution across the body depth keeps the lure in a clean, upright swimming posture all by itself.
Frilled Lip: The key element behind the action.
The fan-shaped lip above the head deflects the oncoming water and generates a fine shiver entirely on its own, combined with a strongly flashing roll action. Simply fit a jig head and retrieve steadily - the demanding mid-strolling action happens by itself. This lifelike movement is only possible with a soft bait and appeals directly to a predator's hunting instinct.
When you want to fish even slower and cover less distance, for example when hovering, the lip acts as a brake. That makes it possible to work holding spots such as steep edges, rock and pilings with pinpoint accuracy. On a jig head the lip also covers the hook point and thus serves as a simple weed guard.
Tail: The tail trails the body movement and shimmers along with it - this adds even more naturalness to the whole action and makes the Frilled Shad look every bit like a real baitfish.
